Hoar Construction Project Controls Engineer / HPM in Birmingham, Alabama

The Project Controls Engineer is a member of a project team and is responsible for performing or assisting in all project controls tasks required for the construction of a large, multi-building program. This position provides key support in monitoring workflow, coordinating and tracking cost and schedule data and identifying key project delivery risks and issues. In this role you may be required to travel up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage project cost and schedule, including budget, forecast, commitments, accruals, Work-In-Place, milestones, WBS, progress, risks, contingency, and KPIs.

  • Provide monthly project status report (cost, schedule, risk and workforce report).

  • Supports Project Controls Manager with data management for various construction projects.

  • Manage the project change control process and maintain the schedule baseline and current budget to reflect approved changes.

  • Communicates financial status and schedule details from multiple construction sites to project managers and project teams.

  • Reviews schedule for progress and warning signs and identifies critical path and alignment between cost and schedule.

  • Execute project completion close out process, including closing contracts, finalizing schedule, and reconciling schedule/cost performance against baseline. Update and progress the project schedule while maintaining logic to the control schedule.

  • Utilize and maintain historical cost databases (eBuilder or similar) through input of budgets, commitments, work in place, invoices, and forecasts.

  • Conduct accrual analysis and coordinate with payment processing teams to track the status of vendor payments.

  • Reviews invoices versus contractually agreed upon terms and conditions and apply appropriate actions.

  • Participates in additional assignments and leadership initiatives per Project Controls Manager direction.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years professional experience in construction and project planning for large multi-project construction programs.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Business, Building Science, Accounting or Finance or related field preferred

  • Experience of leading cost management on medium or large sized construction projects of medium to high complexity.

  • General knowledge of construction industry technical matters, such as different procurement routes, value management and value engineering.

  • Understanding of construction specifications, construction drawings, and other project documentation including RFIs, submittals, payment applications, and change orders.

  • Strong collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experienced with Primavera P6, Microsoft Office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word) and Google Suite.

  • Familiar with cost control tools (such as eBuilder, Procore, or others).

  • Ability to communicate professionally with client representatives and project team members
